Glorious Ten Eyed Bridge, also known with 3 different names as Tigris Bridge, Silvan Bridge, and Mervani Bridge, is located on 3m west of Mardin Door. About the date of the Bridge, the information of being built on 6th century during Anastasias the 1st, can be maintained from some resources. The bridge was destructed at the times of conquest of city, later it was repaired. It is known to be destructed by Byzantine Emperor Juannes Tzimiscez in 974 while conquest of the city for the final time. Later at the era of Emevi Calif Hisam, the bridge was repaired. According to tablets on the first three eyes of the bridge’s south west side, it can be understood that it was built in Nizamuddin Nasr era by Mervanis and the other sides were repaired. The final construction and reparation of the bridge, which survived until today, was built according to the command of Mervanoglu Nizamuddevle Nasr between 1065-1067 years. It is possible to find ruins, belonging to antic era, in the Zemin of the bridge, thinking that it was destructed and repaired for many times. The bridge, whose length is 18 m, has a large of 7.00-8.00. Its railings are covered with prepared in cut, ranged side by side and connected with triangular roof shaped stones. Tablet of the structure is on the south face and between the first three eyes of the bridge. There is a turned right lion teazling in a frame, designed on a basalt stone, at the end of the bridge’s tablets on the same row. There are some little signs on this lion figure and on some other stones on the bridge’s body. Bridge’s length was kept long due to river streams large and hence straight flooring was formed. . via 500px http://j.mp/1k5mXKb
