Ponta Delgada City Gates, Azores by SandraFilipePhotography

Ponta Delgada's City Gates (in portuguese, Portas da Cidade) are one of the most remarkable and recognizable sights in the heart of the historic centre of Ponta Delgada, situated in the São Miguel Island, the main island of the Azores archipelago. In this particular photo you're able to see the three arches that stand at the edge of the Gonçalo Velho Square, which make up the City Gates, as well as the iconic São Sebastião Church on the background. FYI: The gates date back to 1783, where they were used as a part of a defensive wall. ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you appreciate my work, please visit my Official Website.
