After the English Civil War, Skipton castle was 'demilitarised' - it could not have canon bearing surfaces. In the 1600's Lady Anne Clifford undertook extensive restorations, to make the Castle more a home, than fortress. This door and the stairs leading up to it are one of her modifications.
