Curly Wurly by Turnipfarmer

Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Scotland - http://j.mp/1npm4lX This is Usher Hall and its fabulous staircase, for those who know me or you follow my work you can guess that this was high up on my list to photograph during my time in Edinburgh. Massive thanks goes to Victoria and her friendly, welcoming staff here at Usher Hall for allowing me to photograph this staircase. I originally did a colour version of this image but it was just shouting out to be done in black and white due to the shadows and reflections caused by the beaming light coming down from the skylight into the spiral staircase space. I visited this place during the day but I bet it would be better during the evening when dark outside as it will give a balanced light within the staircase chamber itself, especially the top part but I am very happy with this, maybe next time ;-). The light beaming in gives a certain ethereal feel to the image. One minor detail I wish was working was the tiny little beam light right at the very bottom of the cylindrical chandelier which I suspect was broken or turned off, this would have added another dynamic to the image but never mind and also none of the posters to remove the slightly cluttered feel but hey thats just the photographer in me ;-) I hope you all have a great weekend and hope you enjoy this image. via 500px http://j.mp/1lFlyvn
