The Tomb of Akbar the Great by mirosu

This Mughal Architectural masterpiece tomb was built 1605–1613. It is located on the old NH2 highway from Agra to Delhi in Sikandra near Mathura, which is actually a suburb of Agra in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Akbar the Great himself planned his own tomb and selected the present site for it. After his death, his son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613. Akbar was one of the greatest emperors of his time. The south gate (on the photo) is the largest, with four white marble-topped minarets which are similar to those of the Taj Mahal (which was built few decades later), and the gates normal point of entry to the tomb. The tomb itself is surrounded by a walled enclosure (105m square). The building is made up of red sandstones (the same material as used for construction of Agra Fort and Delhi Fort) with touches of white marble. via 500px http://j.mp/1pkwKQe

The museum housed in the Lakhota Lake Palace, Jamnagar is beautifully adorned with frescoes, sculpted jalis (window seen above), and carvings. In the lake surrounding it, you can spot gulls, pelicans, spot bill ducks, widgeons, terns, cormorants and many such birds. In the center of the lake,in the Palace, houses Pigeons and Rosy Starlings(Starlings only for the winters). The afternoon sun was high-up in the sky and the commotion made by these pigeons cast shadows on the yellow walls of the Palace. This is when I got an idea, and positioned myself in front of a Jali. Born as Arjumand Banu Begum in Agra in a family of Persian nobility as a daughter of Abdul Hasan Asaf Khan, making her a niece and later daughter-in-law of Empress Nur Jehan, the wife of the emperor Jahangir. Arjumand Banu Begum was married at the age of 19, on 10 May 1612, to Prince Khurram, known as Shah Jahan, who conferred upon her the title "Mumtaz Mahal". Though betrothed to Shah Jahan in 1607, she ultimately became his second wife in 1612 and was his favorite. She died in Burhanpur in the Deccan (now in Madhya Pradesh) during the birth of their fourteenth child, a daughter named Gauhara Begum.
