The Tomb of Akbar the Great by mirosu

This Mughal Architectural masterpiece tomb was built 1605–1613. It is located on the old NH2 highway from Agra to Delhi in Sikandra near Mathura, which is actually a suburb of Agra in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Akbar the Great himself planned his own tomb and selected the present site for it. After his death, his son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613. Akbar was one of the greatest emperors of his time. The south gate (on the photo) is the largest, with four white marble-topped minarets which are similar to those of the Taj Mahal (which was built few decades later), and the gates normal point of entry to the tomb. The tomb itself is surrounded by a walled enclosure (105m square). The building is made up of red sandstones (the same material as used for construction of Agra Fort and Delhi Fort) with touches of white marble. via 500px http://j.mp/1pkwKQe

Nasir ud-din Muhammad Humayun (Persian: نصیر الدین محمد همایون‎; OS 7 March 1508 AD – OS 17 January 1556 AD) was the second Mughal Emperor who ruled a large territory consisting of what is now Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of northern India from 1530–1540 and again from 1555–1556. Like his father, Babur, he lost his kingdom early, but with Persian aid, he eventually regained an even larger one.
