Machu Picchu by csillogo11

Machu Picchu (Quechua machu old, old person, pikchu peak); mountain or prominence with a broad base which ends in sharp peaks, is a 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. via 500px http://j.mp/1gOfxfQ

The guts of Boston! by fmarty

A view of the Green T (subway) line in Government Center! The Government Center Station closed yesterday for a full two year reconstruction project, so this may have been the last chance to take this photo unless you are part of the construction project! The station opened in 1898 and was called Scollay until 1969 when the Boston City Hall Plaza was built. You can still get a feel for the turn of the 20th century tracks and cables. A tribute to Joe, Alexander and all the 500px subway photo addicts! via 500px http://j.mp/1fRQgfB
