Church of Mary the Ascended by IrenaSkurnsek

Church of Mary the Ascended in Braslovče The parish church of Mary the Ascended is the oldest building in Braslovče. Though the church is only mentioned in written records around 1255, its preserved parts date back to at least the 10th if not 9th century. During the times of Ottoman raids in the late 15th century, the church was enclosed by a formidable fortified camp that boasted four defensive towers and a drawbridge. One of the towers and a section of the walls remain preserved to this day. The tragic historical figure Veronika of Desenice, second wife to Frederick II, the Count of Celje, was in 1428 temporarily buried next to the church after having been murdered at the command of his father. via 500px http://j.mp/1DjJPj6
